Actuaries have one of the best positions in the business to influence its direction and decision-making, yet there are still challenges that hamper our efforts to do so.
 
To me, an “influential actuary” provides impactful and effective advice to the business through deep business insights. Over the course of my actuarial career, I have acquired a number of “rules of thumb” that I apply in my day-to-day work to strive to become this elusive “influential actuary”.
 
In this session, I will share these (not-very-mathematical) rules of thumb which are practical in nature, including experiences where I succeeded and where I did not. I hope they can help you navigate through the corporate world as an actuary, regardless of what stage you are in your actuarial career.
